"Imprint: Urban Audio Spectrum" is a project with a dual structure that processes urban noise as data, visualizes it, and then transforms it into sound art through a perforated music box.
The artist captures audiovisual records while walking through the city. The acoustic information collected during this process is converted into audio waveforms and spectrograms through data processing. The generated audio waveforms are output in a long loop format, and the waveforms are engraved using a perforation method based on their pitch.
When these sound prints, engraved with acoustic information, are inserted into a perforated music box, the urban noise is transformed into music and reinterpreted through sound.
The records that make up this work—including video, sound, film, and prints—go beyond serving as a mere urban archive. They become a new artistic experience, offering a reimagined interpretation of the city. This series of archives provides viewers with fresh perspectives and sensory experiences of everyday urban spaces.
This project reconstructs the memory of urban spaces by conducting field recordings, visualizing the sounds through data processing, and further transforming them into music.
It goes beyond mere archiving or sound reproduction, weaving together elements of place, memory, and cultural narratives. This installation, combining various media, invites new sensory experiences through interaction with its audience.
Additionally, the artist pursues an exploration of transforming the auditory elements of urban sound recordings into visual forms. The ephemeral temporality of urban sounds is captured through field recordings, and through Fourier transformation and subsequent data processing, they are visualized, examining the boundaries between phenomenon and representation.
